2 Chainz is an American rapper, songwriter, basketball player, and a media personality. He is known for being one-half of the Southern hip hop duo "Playaz Circle", with his fellow rapper and longtime friend Earl "Dolla Boy" Conyers.
On August 14, 2012, he released his debut studio album "Based on a T.R.U. Story", which has three successful singles that was certified Gold or higher, along with the album being certified Gold by RIAA.
Early Life
Tauheed Epps was born on September 12, 1977 in College Park, Georgia. He attended North Clayton High School where he played basketball and graduated second in his class. When he was 15, he got arrested for felony cocaine possession as he was dealing with marijuana. He later on attended Alabama State University on a scholarship and played on its basketball team from the year 1995 to 1997.
Career
In 1997, he formed the hip hop duo "Playaz Circle" together with his high school friend, Earl Conyers. On October 30, 2007, their debut album "Supply and Demand" was released with its lead and debut single, Duffle Bag Boy, that later on became a hit single. Two years after, their second studio album "Flight 360: The Takeoff" was released.
Epps decided to change his then-pseudonym "Tity Boi" to "2 Chainz" due to the reason that he sometimes get criticized of sexism. After leaving the hip hop duo and changing his stage name, he released a mixtape entitled T.R.U. REALigion, that became successful and appeared at no. 58 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.
His debut studio album "Based on a T.R.U. Story" was released on August 14, 2012, peaking at no. 1 on the US Billboard 200, and selling 147,000 copies on its first week.
In March 2016, Epps 12 collaborative album "ColleGrove" with rapper Lil Wayne was released. The album features several producers like Mike Will Made It, Honorable C.N.O.T.E., London on da Track, TM88, Metro Boomin, Zaytoven, and more. In the same year, he started a line of hoodies called CEO Millionaires or Create Every Opportunity Millionaires.
The following year, he released his fourth studio album "Pretty Girls Like Trap Music" under Def Jam Recordings. Epps implied to the album showing "growth" and "maturation".
The first episode of the television series "Most Expensivest" aired on the TV network Viceland, on November 15, 2017. The series focuses on 2 Chainz going to different places offering the "most expensivest" goods and services. The show was renewed for a 20 episode third season.
Epps fifth studio album "Rap Or Go To the League", was released on March 1, 2019.
Personal Life
On August 18, 2018, Epps married his wife, Kesha Ward. The couple have 3 kids together: daughters Heaven and Harmony, and son Halo.
