Seyfried began her modelling career at the age of 11 and received her first acting role by 15. Her breakthrough came from her roles in As the World Turns, Mean Girls, and Big Love. She became a household name for her performances in Mamma Mia in 2008 before returning for the sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in 2018.
Early Life
Seyfried finished high school at William Allen High School before enrolling at Fordham University. She would never finish college however, Seyfried made the decision to drop out and pursue her acting career.
Before entering an acting career, she started modelling when she was 11 years old. Seyfried became the model in print ads of the clothing company Limited Too. She was also featured on three covers of Sweet Valley High, a novel by Francine Pascal.
By the age of 17, Seyfried had stopped modelling and worked as a waitress in a retirement community. She also took voice lessons, trained with with a Broadway coach and studied opera. Her acting career started out with an extra role in Guiding Light, a daytime drama television series.
Seyfried full debut was television acting career in the soap opera As the World Turns in 1999. She played the role of Lucinda “Lucy” Montgomery from 1999 to 2001. She later joined the series All My Children in 2003 as Joni Sttaford, Law & Order: SVU in 2004 as Tandi McCain, and Veronica Mars in 2004-2006 as Lilly Lane.
Mean Girls marked Seyfried’s debut on the big screen in 2004. She initially auditioned for the role of Regina George but the directors went with Rachel McAdams. She was also considered to play the lead role of Cady Heron, which was eventually given to Lindsay Lohan. The producers decided to give her the role of Karen Smith, a member of Regina’s innter circle. The movie was a hit earning a total gross of over $130 million during its theatrical run.
Awards
Seyfried received several nominations and awards for her notable performances in both television and movies. She received a Locarno International Film Festival Best Actress for Nine Lives. Seyfried also won, alongside McAdams and Lohan, MTV Movie Awards Best On-Screen Team for Mean Girls. She was also hailed ShoWest Breakthrough Female Star of the Year Award for Mama Mia!.

Seyfried dated Dominic Cooper between 2008 and 2010 after meeting on the set of Mamma Mia. She would later date Justin Long in 2013 after initiating the relationship via instagram. The pair lived together in a New York City apartment but broke up just two years later.
A romantic relationship started between her and actor Thomas Sadoski in 2016. The pair confirmed their engagement in September 2016. They tied the knot in 2017 while she was pregnant and welcomed their newborn on March 24.

She got a breakthrough role in HBO’s drama series Big Love as Sarah Henrickson from 2006-2011. The series focused on a fictional fundamentalist Mormon family. Sarah struggles with the polygamous faith of her family. After the fourth season, she left the series to focus on her film career.
Seyfried co-starred with Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan in Mama Mia! in 2008. It was her first leading role. The musical romantic comedy was a commercial success, earning over $600 million at the box office. Some of her notable films include Jennifer’s Body in 2009, Dear John in 2010, Les Miserables in 2012. In early March 2009, she was selected by director Zack Snyder for the lead role for the film Sucker Punch. Unfortunately, Seyfried did not pursue with the film because of scheduling conflicts with Big Love.
Seyfried co-starred with Channing Tatum in Dear John in 2010. She wrote and recorded one of the soundtracks of the film titled Little House. The film received negative reviews, but was the first movie to break Avatar’s box office reign earning $115 million worldwide.
In 2013, she appeared in The Big Wedding and lend her voice in the animated movie Epic. She also played the titular character Linda Lovelace in the biopic Lovelace. In 2015, she starred in the comedy film Ted 2 and Mary in the film Pan. In 2019, she starred in the comedy-drama The Art of Racing in the Rain as Eve.
