Christopher Nolan has received many awards and honours over the course of 15 years of his career in film-making. In 2015 and in 2019, the Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
Nolan has been nominated for five Academy Awards, five BAFTA, and six Golden Globe Awards. He has been selected by The Art Directors Guild (ADG) as the recipient of its Cinematic Imagery Award in 2015 and was also appointed as Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to film in the 2019 New Year Honours.

Early Life
As early as the age of 7, Nolan started making short films through his father’s Super 8 camera. Growing up, Christopher Nolan was influenced by the science fiction films.

Nolan went to University College London, where he studied English literature something unrelated to film-making. After earning his degree he started working as a script reader, camera operator, and director of corporate videos and industrial films.
Nolan’s journey in his career was not a fruitful one. He had no support financially and whatsoever to getting his projects off the ground. After the successful release of his first feature film “Following”, Nolan created a name in the film industry. Following the success of “Following”, which won several awards, he was given the opportunity to make “Memento” his breakthrough film. From there, Nolan released one smash hit after another, one bigger hit and profitable than another.

Nolan got married to his wife Emma Thomas in 1997. She is an English film producer. They both graduated in the same school in University College London. She has produced all Nolan’s films and collaborated with all of his projects. They live with their four children in Los Angeles, California.

Nolan and his wife founded their own production company, Syncopy Films. Nolan’s works specializes often in dark, psychological dramas. Nolan is the first British director to have a film that made one billion dollars at the box office with The Dark Knight (2008).
