Joshua Winslow Groban was born on February 27, 1981 in Los Angeles, California. In 1999, he finished high school at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, majoring in theater. He then attended Carnegie Mellon University. He dropped out during his freshman year after receiving a recording contract.
