Sean John Combs was born on November 4, 1969 in Harlem, New York. His mother Janice was a part-time model and a teacher while his father Melvin was working for the U.S. Air Force. His father was shot dead by a New York gang when he was two years old.
He went to Mount Michael Academy then attended Howard University. He dropped out before his second year started to pursue his career in music. In 2014, he received an honorable doctorate degree in humanities from the University.

Combs started his movie appearance in Carlito’s Way: Rise to Power. He starred as Hollywood Nicky, leader of the black gangsters. The movie focuses on how Carlito Brigante (Jay Hernandez) emerges as the heroin leader of Harlem.
He also starred in I’m Still Here (2010), Draft Day (2014), and The Defiant Ones (2017).
